A marriage vow made before God is not binding, apparently to that group who thinks 'restoration' is a cover-all for anything, even scripture, that would prevent our flesh from having its way in our lives.

Thank goodness for his supporters. Now I can, under the cover of 'restoration' and not being a 'pharisee', justify anything I want. I'll remember that if I find someone more attractive and desirable than my wife.

Providential1611:

What these adultery apologists need to realize is that if they have a problem with the scripture, then they need to take it to the One who wrote it. Calling others names merely because they are trying to live by the scripture (and I am no better than any of the adultery apologists) is an attack, indirect as it is, against the scripture. And ultimately against the Almighty who authored it. I fear that such attitudes will lead to a far different eternal outcome than what they expect.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13534855169414929486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4278880674763257244.post-36922698175067767152010-04-20T11:15:52.181-07:002010-04-20T11:15:52.181-07:00Julie, I do allow other points of view. Calling me names does not disprove what we did or our explanation for why we went. Martin cannot refute what we did Scripturally, nor can he refute the fact that Todd has been caught in many lies, which I others have documented. Google Ad Hominem, and you will understand what Martin was doing.

For example, if I prove from the Bible that something Rick Joyner wrote is seriously wrong and unBiblical, and Rick responds with "well you are a Pharisee", how is that answering the points made against his doctrinal ideas? You see, it isn't, but it is a convenient method of NOT ANSWERING a rebuke and instead changing the subject and making the issue the person bringing the charge rather than the charge itself. It is dishonest on a number of levels, and that is what Martin was doing.Providential1611https://www.blogger.com/profile/13153141880319052909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4278880674763257244.post-25346091840869151672010-04-19T11:13:58.610-07:002010-04-19T11:13:58.610-07:00Well said R

Nothing He can do but accept and bless the adulterous union that destroyed a covenant marriage and family. Now your adultery, (although not turned away from) has now become "un-sin"....even though you're still doing it. Amazing. It's a bit tricky, but still works according to many worldly christians today.

You have now successfully tricked God with legalities.

And besides, God only wants us to be HAPPY! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4278880674763257244.post-36748859543147492072010-04-13T16:55:29.279-07:002010-04-13T16:55:29.279-07:00The adultery apologists never cease to amaze me wi...The adultery apologists never cease to amaze me with the scriptural gymnastics they engage in to downplay this issue, at least according to scripture. According to someone named Jesus Christ:

"But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery." Matthew 5:32

"And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." Matthew 19:19

"And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her." Mark 10:11

"Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from [her] husband committeth adultery." Luke 16:18

That someone will downplay the words of Jesus is nothing short of tragic. But 'what's done is done'.

I'll remember that if I ever get the Seven Year Itch and find someone I want to sleep with beside my wife. Just divorce her and repent and ask for forgiveness after the fact.

If that's acceptable to God for preachers, then that's acceptable for me.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13534855169414929486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4278880674763257244.post-87967940851525732512010-03-30T12:49:59.670-07:002010-03-30T12:49:59.670-07:00Unless posts contain blasphemy or profanity, it up...Unless posts contain blasphemy or profanity, it upsets me that you do not allow another points of view to be expressed simply because it is contrary to yours. All you know is face value facts... ...Michele...
All you know is face value facts... You don't know the intricacies of Todd and Shonna's Marriage. And neither do I...
I'm not in any way defending Todd's behavior. He screwed up his marriage. He threw it away.
They tried to put them through restorative counseling, and it didn't work. It wasn't just Todd... Shonna didn't want to get back together with Todd either.
And regardless of whether you think he's a lying adulterer, or a weak man, who just lost his family and made a stupid choice; (You don't know the man's heart) He is where he's at now. He's entered into a marriage covenant with Jessa. Not advised to do this.... His mistake. Now his wife. There is no restoration of his previous marriage.

I know we feel in the church we're too often the victim, of a preacher who sins and then says... "I'm sorry. But what's done is done now."

But that is the case... And Todd has publicly repented on several occasions. But what do you want him to say with Jessa standing next to him on that stage, whom he's promised to love the rest of his life. You want him to divorce again? Are you really that dense? The man is between a rock and a hard place... and realizes he put himself there. He's genuinely sorry, and just wants to do what he's always done... serve God again and minister to people. He's lost a ton of influence because of his actions, but dear God!... where is the mercy from the body of Christ? You can't quote one verse, follow it to the tee, and then throw another out of the same book.

"If any man is caught in any sin... You who are spiritual restore him in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted."

I'm not defending Todd's decisions, neither am I the biggest fan of his ministry. I'm not a fan at all. But you people are ridiculous. You have no concept of God's heart for people. Jesus did not come only merely to save us from our sins... He came to save us from the consequences of them.

You're more interested in saving people from an action that will send them to an eternal consequence. Jesus did that already.
He came to give us life. Abundant Life. His desire is for us to be a flavor in the earth. A salt to people. And if that salt becomes tasteless it's good for nothing.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15057236373978079060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4278880674763257244.post-71112453180390085632010-02-26T13:41:51.267-08:002010-02-26T13:41:51.267-08:00Martin,
I'm truly amazed and baffled by people...Martin,
I'm truly amazed and baffled by people who claim christianity and still embrace the sexually immoral. Not only embrace them, but defend them within the church under the guise of "grace and forgiveness". This of course would be the case if Todd fell into the sin of adultery and when confronted, repented by asking for forgiveness from God, his wife and family and the church he deceived. The fruit of that repentance would have been working on his marriage to restore it, controlling his obviously lustful desires for other woman, and humbling himself before God. That would be true repentance. Not a quickie divorce and remarriage to the woman he was cheating with. We are to "flee" sexual immorality and NOT associate with those in the church who choose it. Todd is currently living in adultery. His marriage is not a marriage in the eyes of God who calls such a marriage as this "adultery." Jessa Hasbrook is living with another woman's husband according to the Word of God. He may be married to Jessa Hasbrook in this world according to a piece of paper, but God sees it differently. You cannot use a legal document to cover a moral failure. And while we all have moral failures in our lives that God forgives, most true christians know that legalizing your moral failure will not fool God into thinking your sin is no longer sin. And....apparently now, since he is back to ministering, he will now lead others down the same wide path that he himself and the secular world condones. The bleeding of divorce needs to stop. The ripping apart of the one-flesh union of covenant marriage needs to stop. The ripping away of children from their mothers and fathers needs to stop. The church needs to quit desiring worldly ways and start desiring God's ways...or we are ALL headed to hell.

What these men did to confront and rebuke Todd was biblical. What Todd is doing is not.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4278880674763257244.post-85064491333077518512010-02-25T23:20:33.423-08:002010-02-25T23:20:33.423-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15057236373978079060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4278880674763257244.post-26691322986296370052010-02-16T17:27:32.261-08:002010-02-16T17:27:32.261-08:00One thing is for sure, we are to forgive Todd Bent...One thing is for sure, we are to forgive Todd Bentley, Jessa and Rick Joyner for the sins they have committed against the Lord and the body of Christ.
